Assam: Hailakandi DTO Placed Under Suspension For Negligence of Duties

Guwahati: District Transport Officer, Hailkandi, Apu Mazumdar was suspended for gross negligence of duties on Tuesday.

As per an official statement, Transport department Secretary Adil Khan, has placed Mazumdar under suspension with immediate effect for leaving the district headquarters without prior permission from the competent authority on June 15.

"The then Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Rohan Kumar Jha, reported to the transport authorities that DTO Mazumdar left the headquarters for Gurugram, Haryana without prior permission from the district authorities," the statement added.

After suspending, Mazumdar, Khan has asked the district authorities to appoint an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner to run the district transport office.

Notably, in March this year, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had asserted that the state government employees were required seek permission before leaving the district, wherein, they are posted.

He further apprised that if any employee fails to follow the order, in that case, he/she will be suspended.

Sarma had also warned government employees no to leave district headquarters without proper permission, adding, ''Employees cannot work in one district and travel to the other on a daily basis.''

He further said that he was aware that many employees travel to work from their home district to the nearby district where they are posted.
